Your host accompanies you from Rovaniemi to Kätkävaara Wilderness Lodge. The evening begins in the welcoming lodge restaurant with a generous festive dinner inspired by the flavours of Lapland, Arctic fish, game, seasonal vegetables, berries and northern desserts.

After dinner, music from Finnish Lapland and the glow of open fires lead you into the kota village. Hear stories of winter and the turning year, then try a beloved Finnish New Year tradition: melting & casting a small piece of metal into water. Its shape and shadow are playfully interpreted as a clue to what the coming year may bring.

The evening inlcudes activities for all ages with tobogganing and playful snow activities. During the evening, Santa Claus makes a surprise visit to wish everyone a joyful New Year, a magical moment for children and adults alike.

Before midnight, gather outdoors for the Kätkävaara midnight moment: make a wish, share a minute of Arctic quiet and count down together. Fireworks welcome the New Year, followed by a glass of sparkling wine or a non-alcoholic alternative.

The northern lights may appear if the sky is clear, but as a natural phenomenon they can never be guaranteed. This experience is designed to create a memorable New Year with or without them.
